Biofuel Benefits

POET -one of the largest ethanol producers in the world - has produced a report which cites the various advantages of using biofuels above traditional carbon based fuels. POET runs biofuel plants across the U.S. and currently employs upwards of 40,000 people in its dry mill corn ethanol plants. POET feels that amongst the various advantages of using biofuels there is an undoubted boost to the local economies of the states where its plants are sited. As well as benefitting the local economies POET feels that biofuel production offsets the need to import oil from foreign sources - leading to more energy security.

Alongside all these economic advantages POET says that there is evidence to show that there is a 35% reduction in CO2 emissions for every gallon of ethanol burned compared to gasoline. Indeed, POET produced 2.7 billion gallons of ethanol in 2014 which translated into a reduction of 874,000 metric tons of carbon emissions in the same year.

POET is currently concerned that a proposal by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to lower biofuel targets could have a detrimental effect upon biofuel producers.
