Insulation Possible For Properties with Solid Walls

It has been estimated that solid walls let through twice as much heat as cavity walling. Indeed  up to 45% of a home's warmth can be lost through solid walls which have not been insulated. Cavity walls have a gap between the inner and outer layers so they do not let as much heat escape. Until recently insulating a solid walled property has been difficult if not impossible. However the evolution of new techniques means that solid walls can now be effectively insulated. If you live in a home which was built in the 1930s or earlier then the chances are that your home has solid walls.

Th!nk Energy are a local Yorkshire company with many years of expertise in cutting edge insulation techniques. We can provide two options for insulating your solid walls. External insulation (using the latest Thermoshell technology) or internal insulation (using Knauf's ground breaking Thermoshell, British Gypsum Drilyner or British Gypsum Gypliner).

Both options have advantages and disadvantages but the main advantage of external insulation is that it will not entail a great deal of disruption to the household however it will alter the external appearance of the property. With internal insulation there is more disruption to the household but the external appearance of the property will not be affected. However disruption can be minimised if insulation is installed on a room by room basis thus limiting any disruption to one area at a time. Whichever option you choose Th!nk Energy can guarantee that you will have a professional job done.

Solid wall insulation can appear to be expensive with external insulation typically costing anywhere between £5,000 and £18,000 and internal insulation being slightly cheaper between £3,000 and £14,000 depending on the property. However there are various government grants currently available to help homeowners achieve more energy efficient homes. At Th!nk Energy we are proud to be an accredited Green Deal company. As such, we can help you access any government grants available.

The Energy Company Obligations scheme (ECO) was introduced in January 2013 and provides funds for energy efficiency improvements for those living in properties with solid walls. The Green Deal was also launched in January 2013 to help homeowners improve the energy efficiency of their properties without having to pay for the improvements upfront. This effectively means that you pay for any improvements through your energy bill with extra being added to the bill to cover the cost. However it is envisaged that the potential energy savings of your lower energy consumption will more than offset any extra payment. Thus, you will benefit from having a warmer home without noticing any different in payments. There is also a Green Deal cashback scheme which is a limited offer available to households in England and Wales. Under this scheme householders can claim cashback for things such as insulation and more energy efficient boilers.

Whatever your insulation requirements you can rest assured that once you contact Th!nk Energy you will be in the capable hands of a professional company offering a top class service at a competitive price.
